It's Christmas Time in the City

Yesterday was filled with Christmas-y activities.  First in Folklore I learned about Saint Stephen's Day which is close to Christmas. There used to be a practice of killing a wren but now ones tend just to be captured and released later.  It is also one of the holidays that straw boys attend.  One group's motto is: we've never died a winter yet.

The Table that Sold Us the Tiramisu
After the class, Montana and I headed to the main campus to a Christmas fair where all of the proceeds would go to charity.  It wasn't super set up (or advertised) so it wasn't the most decorated or most visited place.  But we each got a massive amount of tiramisu for a euro, so who are we to complain?

Scrooge and the Other Characters in A Christmas Carol
Later that evening Kayla, Montana, and I headed downtown.  I stopped at a hot chocolate place and got hot chocolate with peppermint oil.  Then we headed to the Christmas Market so Kayla and Montana could get some dinner.  Our final stop was the library (right next to the Christmas Market) to see a free performance of A Christmas Carol.  I loved the performance.  It was essentially a dramatic reading of it by one actor but he was fantastic.  He did different voices and must have an incredible memory to tell the story straight for an hour and a half.

Tree in Bishop Lucey Park
Our original plan for the evening was to stop and look at the lights in Bishop Lucey Park, but it turns out they were only on display on Fridays, but I did get this shot of one of the park's Christmas trees.
